Kahului Park & Ride is a free public commuter lot on Kuihelani Highway (Route 380) in Kahului, Maui, near the junction with Maui Veterans Highway (Route 311), about 3 miles (5 km) from Kahului Airport (OGG). It is not an airport car park: there is no shuttle to the terminal, no reservation system and no ticket machines, and the lot does not appear on the airport’s official parking page. People use it for carpooling, as a meeting point for island tours, and for its DC fast chargers — the first federally funded (NEVI) EV charging station in Hawaii.

Key facts

  • What it is: a free, unstaffed State of Hawaii park-and-ride commuter lot, accessible 24/7.
  • Where: on Kuihelani Highway (Route 380), close to its intersections with Maui Veterans Highway (Route 311), Pu‘unēnē Avenue (Route 3500) and Mayor Elmer F. Cravalho Way (Route 3800, the former Airport Access Road), Kahului, HI 96732.
  • Cost: parking is free. Charging at the EV station is paid.
  • Getting to the airport: there is no shuttle or airport transfer from this lot — OGG is a separate drive of about 3 miles.
  • Tour meeting point: several Maui tour operators use the lot as a pick-up spot; Hike Maui, for example, tells guests to turn into the lot and park against the concrete block wall.

The EV fast chargers

The charging station opened on 28 February 2024 and consists of four 150 kW DC fast chargers with CCS and CHAdeMO ports. It was the first station in Hawaii funded by the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program and is required to be publicly available 24/7. Charging is billed at time-of-use rates; availability and payment run through the EV Connect app, and credit cards are accepted at the charger itself.
