The McNamara Parking Garage is the airport-operated deck attached to the McNamara Terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW). It is run by the Wayne County Airport Authority and cannot be booked in advance: parking is first come, first served. Before you leave, check live lot status at metroairport.com/parking or call the 24-hour parking hotline at (800) 642-1978, option 3.

Key facts

Location: McNamara Terminal, Detroit Metro Airport, Romulus, MI. From I-94 take exit 198 (Merriman Rd); from I-275 take exit 15 (Eureka Rd) and follow airport signage.
Getting to the terminal: no shuttle needed — the garage is joined to the McNamara Terminal by a temperature-controlled skywalk bridge, so you walk straight in.
Height limit: most of the garage takes vehicles up to 7’0″. Van-accessible spaces up to 8’2″ are on Level 2 near the B elevators (enter from International Arrivals). Anything taller than 8’2″ must use the Green Lot.
Hours: the airport and its parking facilities operate 24/7.
Payment: credit and debit card payments carry a 2.65% processing fee per transaction. Valet is credit/debit only since June 22, 2026, and the Green Lot accepts card payments only.
Reservations: none. The airport’s own FAQ states parking is available on a first come, first serve basis.

The garage level by level

Level 2 — International Arrivals entrance and the 8’2″ van-accessible spaces near the B elevators. Motorcycles park free on Level 2 (checked August 2026).
Level 4 — Ground Transportation Center level: taxis and rideshare pick up here, and the skywalk takes you into the terminal.
Level 6 — where all valet vehicles are stored. For valet, enter the garage on the departures level, stay to the right and take the ramp down one level; an attendant sends you an SMS link you later use to request and pay for your car. Pay-on-foot machines are in the valet lobby.
Level 8 — eight EV charging spots in the Long-Term section at no extra cost, plus two more in the valet area. Check charger availability via ChargePoint before you arrive.

Note: the South Helix exit ramp has been unavailable since June 15, 2026 — follow the posted detour signage (active alert on metroairport.com as of 30 September 2026). A parking guidance system with per-space availability lights went live in July 2026 (checked August 2026).

Cheaper on-airport alternatives

If the McNamara Garage is full or too expensive, DTW runs two cheaper options. The Big Blue Deck ($23 per 24 h long-term) stands next to the Evans Terminal with its own skywalk. The Green Lot is $20 flat per 24 h, card only, with a free shuttle running 24/7 to the Ground Transportation Centers of both terminals (shuttle line: (800) 642-1978, option 5). Neither can be reserved in advance either.

Can I reserve a spot in the McNamara Garage?

No. DTW sells no prepaid or reserved terminal parking — all on-airport lots are first come, first served. Check real-time space status at metroairport.com/parking or by phone at (800) 642-1978, option 3.

How much does parking at the McNamara Terminal cost?

As of 30 September 2026: long-term $32 per 24 h, short-term up to $44 per 24 h, valet $51 per 24 h, plus a 2.65% card processing fee.

My vehicle is taller than 7 feet — where do I park?

Level 2 has van-accessible spaces for vehicles up to 8’2″ (enter from International Arrivals, near the B elevators). Vehicles over 8’2″ must park in the Green Lot and take the free shuttle.
